Bhitarkanika, the land of mangroves,
menacing estuarine crocodiles and marine turtles, is one of the
major tourist destinations in the coastal region of the state of
Orissa. Endowed with bounties of nature, Bhitarkanika represents one
of the finest creations ever. The wetland is represented by as many
as 3 Protected Areas, namely Bhitarkanika Sanctuary, Bhitarkanika
National Park and Gahirmatha (Marine) Wildlife Sanctuary.

Location
Bhitarkanika is a unique habitat of Mangrove forests criss-crossed
with numerous creeks and mud flats located in Kendrapara district of
Orissa. One of the largest Mangrove eco-systems in India,
Bhitarkanika is home to diverse flora and fauna, some of which are
endemic . The area is located between 86 degree 45' to 87 degree17'
East longitude and 20 degree 17' to 20 degree 47' North latitude in
the estuary of Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra & Mahanadi river

Being situated in the tropics, the climate of the area is hot
and humid. Summer and monsoon are sultry. The area is best visited
during winter from November to March.
