ZERO PLASTICS
Leading a healthy and wealthy life in a clean and green environment is every person’s craze and desire. But unfortunately the growing rate of population with the increasing pollution is what is keeping us far from a healthy environment.

Plastics are one of such pollution imparting components of our daily use. We all use plastics in some or other forms and leave them behind. These discarded plastics pose a threat to human health and environment. Due to its non-biodegradable nature, littering of plastics causes irreversible damage to the environment. Thus the very first component of the DEERS campaign is the drive against the use of plastic carry bags, especially at the heritage/tourist sites.

As part of its campaign against plastic carry bags, the Trust has been engaged in finding viable substitutes to plastic carry bags. “DEERS emphasizes on the manufacture of carry bags made of biodegradable and eco-friendly materials like paper, grass, cloth and jute.

We need a breakthrough !
Our clean environment is our nation’s biggest asset.
The plastic crisis demands action - a breakthrough! And the breakthrough strategy for solving our waste crisis is a very simple one - Zero Plastics.

The ultimate goal of Zero Plastic is to:

  • minimise use
  • maximises recycling
  • ensures that products are made to be reused, repaired, recycled or composted.

 The Opportunity

  • Reduced waste costs – recycling is more cost effective than landfilling
  • Job creation through waste minimisation and recycling initiatives

  • Economic development – revenue can be generated from resources/ commodities otherwise destined for landfill, creating employment
  • Preserving natural heritage – taking responsibility for the preservation of our environment and conservation of our resources
  • Reducing pollution – decreasing litter, greenhouse gas emissions and the burden of landfill remediation or contamination
  • Tourism benefits - assisting India's clean green image

“Let us make our environment a better place to live in.”

The problem

Communities all around the world are grappling with the plastic waste problem. We are in a crisis of our own making as plastics piles up, spreads and contaminates, creating immediate and long term liabilities for future generations. India, with a population of more than 1 crore, is littered with landfills. Generally problems include:

  • Take hundreds of years to decompose .
  • Littering of landscapes and waterways .
  • Threaten wildlife (particularly marine life such as turtles).
  • Release toxic & greenhouse gas emissions when burnt causimg Global Warming/Climate Change.

Zero plastics is an extraordinary concept that can lead society, business, and cities to innovative breakthroughs that can save the environment, lives, and money.
